Dev Platform

Welcome to the Splunk UserVoice. We look forward to your feedback in helping us to deliver a stellar developer experience!

Note: The Developer Platform UserVoice site is for feedback and suggestions to improve Splunk’s Developer Experience. Posts not specifically related to enhancing the platform will be removed.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Add SecureString support for NET SDK logins

We’ve been trying to tighten up our password handling, and NET has the SecureString class for handling passwords. Is there any possibility of getting an overload of the Service.Login method for the SDK that takes one of these objects for the password?

Our use-case is that when the Splunk SDK is in use in, for example, an IIS ASP.NET website, we want to keep the plaintext of the Splunk login credentials around for as short a time as possible. Usually one would just load the credentials up, send the appropriate REST call, and zero the memory.

    NET unfortunately makes that…

    • Dynamic drilldown

Easy way to control drilldowns from all elements. Today drilldowns from map and single elements are very limited compared to table. Maybe/likely there already is some way, but why not as easy as with table element?

      • R integration into Splunk

Can we leverage rich set of 'R' library functions into Splunk? R has rich set in machine learning which are not in Splunk currently. If we marry both R and Splunk SPL, we can get un-matched capability into splunk.

        • Generate graphs and fetch by API/SDK

Today you can call a saved search and fetch the results as CSV/XML. It would be great to be able to fetch a PNG/JPG image of a predefined graph. This would be very beneficial for reports, websites etc.

          • Provide an easier method for selecting several options using the Multi Select form input

Currently, in Splunk 6.x when using the example multi select form input, you must individually click each option you want to add to the form input. You cannot "shift click" or drag select multiple options. Each must be chosen individually, which becomes cumbersome if you are selecting lots of options (20+).

            • Need an intermediate development environment for creating modules

There should be a simplified development environment to create modules that will retrieve / generate information for Splunk to index that falls between simply running a one-line cronjob, and building a django module.
Perhaps a GUI interface to setup simple commands (or PS commandlets) that can be run in a particular sequence. Also, it would be important to offer guidance in structuring and formatting the gathered data to best fit built-in capabilities such as Pivot tables.
Finally, have a simple way to pair searches and translation to the module, keeping it within the same interface / realm for cohesion.

              • Custom search command support for additional languages

Today custom search commands are only supported in Python (http://dev.splunk.com/view/python-sdk/SP-CAAAEU2). This feature will add the ability to implement in other languages similar to the way Modular Inputs are supported.

                • Improvements in django tags

When I started using django tags in new Splunk Web Framework I was a bit dissapointed, because there are two features that were availble in simple/advanced XML missing. One is to export results from table/open results in search. Another one is how to get value of GET request. For that I have made javascript workaround, but you have to know a bit about javascript.

In my opinion django tags are missing some features, but they are step into right direction, our dashboards are loading much, much faster since we are using them, keep up the good work! :)
